Remote Desktop - Screen Resolution

Is it my imagination or is it when you are in a remote desktop session, the
screen resolution on the pc you are taking over is not quite as good as say
the pc from which the session originated.

The reason I ask this is because the font looks rather grainy when in remote
desktop session.

Why don't you adjust the settings. "Configuring Remote Desktop"

I don't wish to hijack this thread but although I'm not the OP, out of
interest I clicked on your link.

After it opened, a pop up appeared inviting me to install Microsoft
Silverlight, "....for a better experience of this site".

First time I've ever seen this. Anybody know anything about it?

This message doesn't pop up here, however, "MS Silverlight" is already
installed on my machines for quite a while.
Anybody know anything about it?

Well, no, "Microsoft Silverlight" is not offered via MS Update. I came
across "MS Silverlight" more than a year ago when meeting a Microsoft
Developer in Munich, Germany. If you're interested, there is an SDK
available as well. "Microsoft® SilverlightT 1.0 Software Development
Kit"

Thanks for the info but beyond me I'm afraid.

Have downloaded and installed Silverlight. It just gave me a message
that it was installed and that was it. No configuration, shortcuts etc.

I understand that it's self-updating so I'll leave well alone.

Thanks again.

Never mind. ;)

Yes, it's self-updating and the *final* release of version 1.1 should be
available the other day.
Thanks again.

You're most welcome.

There are a few things that affect this.
- Some of the data being sent is compressed to save bandwidth.
- Some data may be dropped to try to keep up with changes to the screen on
the remote machine (insufficient bandwidth again) - especially if large
image areas are changing, like while playing a movie or game.
- You may have your colour depth set differently on the remote session.
- There may be differences in font settings, or effects like cleartype
(font smoothing).
- The resolution can be set differently in RD client settings.

Some of these can be changed under Options - Display and Experience tabs in
RD client, before you connect.
