Remote Desktop problems

I have a Dell laptop issued by my employer with XP Pro on it. the
machine has an 10/100 CAT5 port on it as well as wireless built in
with an Intel Centrino CPU.

Both the hard-wired LAN port as well as the wireless port are working
fine, however, we can only connect to the laptop via Remote Desktop on
the hard-wired LAN port. When we try to connect via the wireless
connection, the connection starts and then times out.

I am of the opinion that there is some sort of security policy in
place for the wireless connection but have not been able to find it in
either gpedit.msc or in security.msc, nor have I been able to find
anything in the Intel Pro wireless applet that is managing the
wireless adapter.

anyone have any ideas on this? we'd love to be able to connect to the
laptop via the wireless adapter for the obvious reasons.

Thing you could try:
1. Check the ip address if the wireless connection (internal and external)
2. Turn off all Firewalls or ensure they are configured correctly
3. If you are using a router make sure you have the correct setting for Port
Forwarding.
4. Disable hard wired Lan and try again
Hope it helps.....

thanks for the suggestions... to clarify: we have a good working IP
on the wireless port, the wireless port can get out to the internet,
etc. we have tried both DHCP assigned IP and a fixed IP on the
wireless port. no joy.

firewall has been turned off on the laptop for testing.

connection attempts are on same segment of the LAN as opposed to
trying to come in through a firewall/NAT router from the internet.

we can connect to the machine all day long using the E-Net cable port
so we know the Remote Desktop and associated settings are ok... it
just seems as if some security setting somewhere is preventing
connecting on wireless.

the connection starts on wireless but then times out and we get an
error dialog...

Sounds like a tricky problem. Try posting in

Best of luck
