Remote Desktop problem

Hi,

My host computer is my home desktop and my client computer is my laptop. I
can access my host computer from my client computer when my laptop is at
home. But I can not access my host computer from my client computer when I'm
at my boss's office. Any idea's why? I'm not the most knowledgeable with
computer terms so you may need to make it very simplified.

Assuming at home both computers are in the same subnet and in the office you
connect it remotely from the Internet, you need to open port 3389 in the
home router. This example may help.

How to forward port in linksys routerHow to forward port in Linksys router.
This how to based on Linksys BEFVP41 router and the example is forwarding
port 3389 for TS access. ...

When you're at home you are on the same side of the router as the host,
you are in a local area network (LAN) and routers usually allow almost
all traffic between machines within the LAN. When you are at work you
are on the "other" side of the router, you are not part of the same LAN
as the host, the router blocks all traffic trying to enter the LAN, that
is it's job, it only allows traffic that originates as a result of a
request from a machine from inside the LAN, for example a machine asks
for a web page, the request came from a machine inside so the router
allows the web page to reach the machine that made the request. You
need to open a port (the default port is TCP 3389) in your router to
allow the traffic from the client to the host.

In addition its possible the work network admins block TCP Port 3389
outbound. If this is the case check with them for a work around keeping in
mind that it may be a violation of company policy to connect your home
untrusted network/computer with the trusted work network/computer.

Thanks guys. I think I correctly made the changes to my router. I'll find out
the next time I go to the office. I'll be sure to reply here to let you know.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm not able to access my home desktop
from my laptop when I'm at work. I have an older Linksys router BEFW11S4 ver.
4. Does that matter?
