Remote Desktop music and video

Having helped out with the answer to another question regarding the Remote
Desktop Connection App - leaving sound at the remote computer, is there any
way the screen display can also be left, or duplicated there?
My photo collection is stored on the Desktop which I can connect wirelessly
to the TV/HiFi and I'd like to use the laptop, WiFi enabled, to select and
show photos and video, on the TV screen, from the Desktop.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

No, once you log in via Remote Desktop, the "host" computer's display is locked.

Yes, but that would require you to send the invitation from one computer, accept it at the other, then go back and authorize the acceptance at the original computer and grant control permissions.

You might want to look into VNC. Its similar to Remote Desktop, but doesn't lock the local session, as far as I know.

Any other way this might be possible, for example, using remote assistance?

Possible, but that would mean a lot of to and froing and when the Desktop and
TV/HiFi are on different floors, very wearing. You can probably see what I am
trying to do, make the Desktop the media hub and control it from the laptop
in which ever room the output is available.
I'll have a look at VNC and see if this will do the job, meanwhile thanks
for your help. If you come up with other ideas I'd be pleased to hear.
By the way, did I hit the correct discussion group?
Am I missing out on other people's experiences?
Regards
