Remote Desktop connection Refused

Bryan

Good day.

I am trying to establish a RDP connection to an XP Pro
SP2 workstation thru a Cisco VPN connection. I alwas
recieve a Maximum number of connections exceeded. I am
able to connect while inside the firewall. From outside I
am unable to. Any ideas? Though the Cisco VPN I am able
to connect to a Windows 2003 server then connect to the
same workstation but am unable to establish the direct
connect.

Hi Bryan,

Not a solution, but you're not alone.
I'm experiencing exactly the same thing (or maybe it's just similar, not
sure), although my setup is far less involved:\two xp pro sp2 systems
(laptop / desktop)
I used to be able to connect laptop to desktop as often as I wanted before
sp2.
Now I can only connect 1 time, meaning 1 connection is ok, but after logof
(not disconnect, mind you) I cannot connect again without the error:
The client could not establish a connection to the remote computer.
The most likely causes for this error are:
1) Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote computer.
2) The maximum number of connections was exceeded at the remote computer.
3) A network error occurred while establishing the connection.

It's not 1) and not 3), so it must be 2).
A network trace (from laptop to desktop) while establishing the connection
(second time around) the only thing that happens is the three-way tcp
handshake, immediately followed by a RST tcp package.

Eventvwr shows EventID 1036 status code 0xC000037 and the only kb article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q321624 I've been
able to find refers to the fact this would have been solved in sp1. (so it
should still be solved in sp2?, right?)

When I reboot my desktop all is well again, once!

George,

I can connect all day to my workstations on the LAN from
inside the firewall. Once I use the VPN connection it is
a no go. The only error I see is the following in my
event log:
Source = TermDD
Event ID = 50

Rdp protocol component x.224 detected an error in the
protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

So far nothin. I have a case in with Cisco TAC and I am
not sure what to do from here. It is very frustrating.
Will keep you posted.
