Remote desktop and time zone settings

D

Dwayne

As posted in the KB article:
You cannot change the time zone setting on a Windows XP-
based computer over a remote desktop connection.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;833551

How can I fix this issue on currently deployed systems
that have the incorrect time zone when I only have remote
desktop access to these devices?

Thanks again!

Dwayne,

This issue has been reported and confirmed by some of us.
E.g., read Mark's post: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...=1&[email protected]

If you don't have any other good remote management option for your already deployed image, I'd suggest you to set up a self-cleaning
startup script (e.g., a batch file that is launched from All Users\StartUp). The script should set the proper time zone settings.

KM,

Sounds like a plan.

Thanks much.

There is a fix that Microsoft has in its hands. Its a replacement for
kernel32.dll, I think. We reported the problem and got a fix in email. It
is unsupported, of course, and I don't think I can pass it around. It is
fixed in embedded Longhorn. :) Contact me offline, and I can try to dig
up the email thread from Microsoft and maybe you can get the fix.

Mark,

I was expecting that you might have gotten a hotfix from MS.
No, it is not distributable until it becomes a QFE. :-(

Thanks for the info!
