Remote control of Dual Boot

Jim

I'm running a dual boot (Windows XP Pro & Windows Server 2003) computer at a
remote location.

I normally use Remote Desktop to operate this computer and I shut it down or
reboot it using "shutdown" from the command line.

My question - is there a way to remotely reboot this computer into the
second operating system? The shutdown command does not seem to offer this
option.

TIA

Not having accomplished or even had a need to myself, a dual boot system after a time out automatically loads the default o/s, If you can change the default prior to shutdown it may function.

You can easily do it with a little script called MyShutdown.bat.
Its tasks are:
1. Prompt you for the OS to be booted into.
2. Put the appropriate boot.ini into C:\.
3. Invoke shutdown.exe to reboot the machine.

Sorry Pegasus but I need a little more info on how to obtain & use
MyShutdown.bat. Is this a file I can download somewhere, etc?

System Propreties, Advanced, Startup Settings button, Default operating
system. Change it and restart.

Hi Bob I,

That was a great suggestion. I can now switch between each OS remotely and
reboot with the shutdown command.

Many thanks
