Remote Assistance

Windows XP has a "remote assistance" feature under Help and Support,
"Invite a friend to connect to your computer with remote assistance".

My attempts to get this to work have been spotty; I'm suspecting that
it's not working in some instances because the person whose computer is
to be controlled is behind a router, and a port needs to be opened that
is being blocked by default.

Is this correct, and what port(s) have to be open to use this feature?

Remote assistance uses port 3389 for TCP/IP, if I recall correctly.

Also, if the person requesting the help is behind a router, and is
submitting the request via e-mail, the IP address in the e-mail message will
be wrong. It will be their LAN IP (behind the router) not the IP address of
the router itself.
