Remote Assistance Broken!

P

Paul Westwell

Hi all,

My remote assistance used to work fine but is now broken!

I am trying to use it on my home network which consists of a Linksys BEFSR41
and two PC's running XP and SP2, UPnP is enabled on both machines and on the
router.

I am also confused if MSN messenger still requires Windows messenger to be
installed on the same machine for all services to work.

Mcafee firewall running

The problem I get is that I can request remote assistance from machine a to
machine b, machine b accepts and the help and support window opens. I then
get (still on machine b) a with called "Remote assistance -- Web Page
Dialog" which informs me "Remote Assistance failed, please try again"

Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe a "proxy" or "firewall" setting has changed or maybe been
employed? Check all machines to allow access thru proxy or firewall settings

Problem still exists if I remove the firewall all together, not sure about
the proxy but I don't believe I have anything configured for them.

Whiteboard and application sharing works fine as does audio, webcam, file
transfer etc all between my machines on my local LAN.

Regards,

Paul
