I have a peer to peer network of 3 pcs at the office all W 2K connected to
internet by router to broadband with firewall. I have a static iP address.

I have home pc connected to broadband.

can I connect from home to the office network and use the files on that
network?
I have read about VPN but do I need windows 2K Server to use that method?
Or is there anopther way?

Graham,

Depends on what youu want to do on that network. There are a variety of
possabilities. Two main ones are:

1) SSH tunnel - configure an ssh server, setup the firewall, start an
ssh session from home (best for specific port/apps)
2) VPN - MS solution or 3rd party (maybe your firewall has one)? 2k
Server needed for MS solution.

It depends.
- If you want access to your files then a VPN would be appropriate.
You do not need a server to set up a VPN.
- If you need to run your office applications from home (e.g. Outlook)
then a remote takeover program would give you much faster access.
You could use WinVNC - it's free.
