Remote Access to SQL Server

Both my SQL: server and Code where located on the same network in the same
domain (actually, on the same computer) and now I need to move my code to a
completely different Computer on a different network on a different domain
with interent access between the servers. When I change the connection
string to make the server the ip of the sql server, I get an error message

SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

What additional security do I need to set up to access this server remotely?

Try accessing it using Query Analyzer.
Same error?

Work with your DBA and network people to resolve this.
