Remote access questions

I am trying to set up remote access, but I have some
questions. First, my router is configured to forward
connections to port 3389 (the default MS remote
connection port) to a specific IP address. Each time I
try to log in to a client, it says the computer may be to
busy or not configured to remote access. However, I made
sure that the "Allow users to connect remotely" box is
checked for the computer I am trying to connect to. What
else could be wrong? I can log on to the server with no
problem and other clients connect fine too.

Second, I also want to configure the router to forward
connections to other ports to forward to other client
computers. What ports are OK to use for this?

Also, how do I configure a remote ftp connection to the
server?

Thanks for the help.

Make sure your calling the correct public IP for the router. Secondly, do a Google search on this news group for the string 'telnet test'. You should find a link to a KB article that describes a troubleshooting test using telnet to see if TCP Port 3389 is really open on the router. Thirdly, make sure you can connect over your local LAN just to make sure the basic (ie. no router) RD connection can be made

Usually high numbered ports should suffice for access to other PCs. Or access them through a VPN tunnel on the default port for each.

Thanks. I can connect to the client from the server using 'Connect with
Terminal Service' but I have no luck when connecting from a computer outside
the LAN. Could there be a problem with the client settings?

I can telnet to the other two computers through the router using port 3389.
However, one client will yield no connection. But I can connect using
Terminal Services if I use RD to connect to the server first. I can also use
RD from the server locally.

Thanks for the help. I am still unsure of what the problem was, however, I
did resolve it. I used the ipconfig /release to erase the IP address given
by the router and rebooted to get a new one. This fixed the problem. Thanks
again.
