Remote access opinion please

I have 2 computers at home on a simple home network communicating through a
router. Both are in our home office on the second floor. I am having knee
surgery in a couple of weeks and will be moving one of the computers to the
main floor because I won't be able to do stairs. My wife will continue to
use the other computer on the second floor. I have used MSN Messenger to
access my daughter's computer in another state in order to help her with
problems, but inviting, accepting, etc., is the only method I know of remote
access.

What would you recommend that would allow me to control/access the 2nd floor
computer from the main floor computer? I would like to answer a question my
wife might have, help her with internet and software issues, access email
and run applications from the remote computer - keeping the mechanics of the
process transparent. I would appreciate your input - I only have a couple
of days to set this up. Thanks for your help.

There are many other application for remote access. You can use Remote
Desktop Connection which you can find by Clikcing on Start, All
Programs, Accessories, Communication - You can type the computer name
or IP Address to connect remote computer.

There is another application which is really good. You can get from
www.logmein.com which is free (trial for long time as I am using since
long time) for remote access. It is really good.

This assumes that the computer the user wishes to control remotely is running XP Pro, not Home.
