Reliability of Linksys NSLU2

V

VW2REG

Hello everybody,

I got a Linksys NSLU2 about 4 months ago and at the beginning I had
nothing but problems, starting from interrupts during large file
transfers and more. Little over two months ago I was able to convince
3rd level support to give me that then in beta testing status firmware
V2.3R29 for the device.
Well, meanwhile V2.3R29 has been officially released and while it
worked pretty well for me for the past two months, a couple days ago -
once in a sudden - the NSLU2 started to refuse to update or add new
files to any of the directories. I reasured myself a couple times that
I am using the correct windows logon name in Windows XP when opening
the share on the NSLU2, but no difference. I can see all the old data,
but I cannot write and new date (add) to the device, nor can I update
existing data.

Does anybody have an idea of how that problem could be solved using
Windows XP only? I do not have the time to install and mess around with
Linux to get that fixed, nor to I want to go through the last ordeal
one more time, which is moving all the date from the device to a
directely to the PC connected device, and afterwards reformatting.

At this point, the NSLU2 seems to me absolutely unreliable and I could
not recommend it to anybody, unless you hate that person. It's just no
fun putting a 230GB worth of data on that device only to figure out a
month later that the device is screwed up once again.

So if you have any idea of how I could fix that issue, please send me a
note here online.
THANK YOU,
Wolfgang
