Reinstalling XP

Hi,
I am helping a friend reinstall XP, but she doesn't have the OEM XP Disk.
Its an HP desktop and tons of HP crap on it...the system will not shut down
gracefully... and yes i've hit the tech page and tried everything but the
reinstall...
My question is can I use my XP Professional disk to reinstall the Home
version? Using of course the Key code from her system?

I used NT server to install NT workstation... but am not sure if this
translates.

Thanks

Won't work. There are different key code for OEM and a retail disk. HP puts
their restore disk on a hidden partition. I read recently that they had been
sued over this and finally relented and agreed to provide people with disks.
Anyway the owner is supposed to burn a set of reinstall disks from there. I
don't have one so I'm not sure but I believe there is a link in the start
menu to do it from. Maybe someone else knows more or your friend could read
her manual or call HP support. They may ship her a disk.
