Reinstalling SP2?

G

Guest

Greetings,

It appears as though I inadvertently deleted something from my registry when
I deleted a program (Corel Office Products) from my computer...as a result I
get an Error 1919 message when I attempted to reinstall my Office
XP...consequently my MS Access isn't working properly...

That being said, I used a diagnostic tool (from MS web page) that indicated
that I have the "MDAC 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2" ... am I able to reinstall
the SP2 to remedy this situation?

p.s., my Windows XP Home Edition came w/ my computer; therefore, i do not
have the original disks...

Hope I wasn't toooo confusing...and thank you for your help...

Don,

Thank you for the reply...in that link is a section entitled: "For Original
Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Editions of Windows 2000 or Windows XP"...am I
to assume that this is my stuation if my software came w/ my system? and if
so am I going to have problems if I don't have the Window's XP disk(s)?

p.s., I attempted Method #1 and received a message indicating that the MDAC
was not appropriate for my system...I was informed that the "MDAC 2.8 SP1 on
Windows XP SP2" was appropriate...

Thanks again for your help...

"For Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Editions of Windows 2000 or
Windows XP"...

If your Windows XP came preinstalled, it is OEM. In the first step, where
is states to locate the I386 folder {usually under \Windows}, did you look
for the I386 folder? I you have the I386 folder, it will contain the
Windows XP installation files so you do not need a CD.

If you have not installed SP-2, I suggest that you do so to solve your
problem {see the second part of the Method 1section discussing MDAC that you
tried}. If you have installed SP-2, try reinstalling. You may need to
uninstall first from Add/Remove Programs.

On error message, my guess, and only a guess, is that MDAC installation
checks which version you have and reports not appropriate as you have the
MDAC version or later files installed.

Perhaps others can give you more help.

Hopefully you have your answer from all . Check the newsgroups where you have multiposted. I also gave you answers in the Office group which is similar to what Dom MI gave you. Please try not to multipost but if really need to then crosspost it next time instead of multiposting

Don MI,

Thanks again for your help...I did uninstall SP2 and reinstalled SP2 (w/o
incident)...that being said, it did not resolve my initial problem...which is
that when I attempt to install MS Office XP...I recieve the same error
message: "Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source." That being said,
I guess I'll try Method #2 (regarding OEM Edition of Windows XP)...from the
link that you initially provided. Though, I must admit...I'm not thrilled
w/ messing around w/ the registry....grrrr

Again, thanks for your time and patience...

Peter,

Will do...I always check back to all the postings...(I always "check" the
notify me option)

....that being said, I did attempt to launch the MDAC (2.8 Sp1) option that
you had cited in your other posting...but when I did, I received the
following message: "This set up does not support installing on this
operating system." Any thoughts?
