reinstalling on a new hard drive

I have just received a replacement 160 gb Hitachi hard drive. I have
on a smaller hard drive windows xp, applications, and data files. I
know how, using Norton Ghost, to transfer contents of smaller drive to
replacement Hitachi drive.

However, is it possible to first do a clean install of Windows XP from
a Msft Windows XP disk onto the Hitachi Hard drive, and THEN,
automatically transfer the contents of the smaller drive onto the
Hitachi, WITHOUT transferring the vsn of Windowx XP that is on the
smaller hard drive?

For those who may be asking WHY, the answer is that I keep getting
counterfeit notices from Windows at boot up time and also cannot update
XP software from MSFT. If I install from a genuine XP disk, I'll stop
getting these troublling messages.

You can always do a Clean XP installation onto a new HD with a proper XP CD.
Then you would also need to reinstall all of your programs.....they cannot
be transfered.
You can however use the files and settings transfer wizard
You can then install the old HD and copy over your saved files
Ghosting would image ALL of the old HD to the new HD...........

You will still need a valid key. If you are using the same key on the
new drive as was used on the old drive you may have a problem activating
the new install. You will then have 30 days of use and thats the end of
XP instead of just nag screens. Perhaps you should fix the problem
before transferring an image to the new drive.

Dear John: I guess I was not completely clear. I do have a copy of XP
with a valid key.
I wish to install that copy and all of the applications and data on the
new Hitachi drive.
Can it be done without installing individual apps and data files?
Aaron
