Reinstalled XP, can't get wireless connection

My daughter and I share a cable connection through a
Belkin 11Mbps Wireless router. Using the diagnostics at
PCPitStop, she identified spyware on her computer. After
removing it, Windows would not start. She reinstalled XP
but now cannot get on the internet. I ran the network
wizard and the Belkin network adapter installation disk.
Still no luck. The wireless icon has a red x over it.
Error messages include: "Network Hardware is
disconnected..." "No connection to the Internet is
available" "cannot find server"

What should I do next?

I would check the usual suspects first.

Check that XP's firewall is disabled.

If you have WEP enabled on the router, turn it off temporarily (until
you have the connection running).

Also, if you have any other filtering active on the router, such as IP
or MAC, turn it off temporarily as well.

In Device Manager, make sure the wireless NIC doesn't have a yellow ?
mark or red X beside it. If it does it usually means a driver issue.

Post back any results.

Still no internet on daughter's computer

Disabled the firewalls on both computers

disabled WEP on daughter's computer. Can't find any
controls for the router, so am unable to find any other
filters.

In Device Manager, I don't see anything unusual by the
Network Adapter (Belkin)

In the Network Connections window, I clicked on
the "Repair this connection" and got the following error
message:

"The following steps of the Repair Operation Failed:
Renewing the IP address"

Also, the network Icon in the tray shows the wireless
network enabled, but for signal strength shows "no signal"

Problem Solved!

I found a utility called WinsockXPFix.exe. Downloaded it
to a disk and ran it on my daughters computer. Now it
works like a charm.
