Reinstall question

I did a Win XP Pro reinstall from Dell system disks. Now on boot, there is
a screen that asks what operating system I want to use. The options are the
same, both Win XP Pro. After 30 seconds it goes to the apparent default
selection and works fine or I can pick one and it works fine. Is there a way
to clean this up so that there is no choice and the computer bypasses this on
start up?

Thanks.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then read similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Professional" /fastdetect

Thx Carey. Both methods worked. I tried the first but then got a message on
startup that the system was booting in Selective Startup with the modified
boot.ini file. Resetting it to Normal Startup went back to the original
boot.ini file and my problem returned. I could have just let that go, I
think, but modifying it by the second method allowed startup to proceed in
normal mode still using the modified boot.ini.

Thanks again.
