reinstall encryption question

Me

I've got some files encrypted using xp pro on an old hard drive. I
got some new sata drives and i'd like to transfer everything over. I
have my 'old' c: (boot) drive backed up with acronis. I am
reinstalling xp, and then will use acronis to get my old xp install
back.

So then i'll put the old hard drives in and transfer all the files
over to the new ones, and then put the old ones up in a closet
somewhere.

When I transfer the encrypted files over, am I going to be able to
unencrypt them? They won't be on the same drive, or have the same
drive letter, but they will have the same xp install that they were
encrypted under.

You should decrypt your files and also capture the EFS recovery key (see
Windows help for more info) in case you miss anything. If you do not do so,
you will likely lose data.

Your best bet, decrypt the files, export the encryption keys before
starting, then once done, you can reencrypt, using current profile.
Exporting the encryption key is just a CYA, in case you miss a file or two.
