reinstall after sp2?

Windows not working well so want fix by re-installing using my xp-pro disk

It says I can't because the system is newer than my disk.
Now what?

Does that mean every time something goes wrong I have to start all over
with a brand new install and re-install all my programs? that can't be
right.

Thanks

Hi John

You will need to make a slipstreamed SP2 CD.

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

Make a SP2 slipstreamed version of Windows XP
and afterward perform a "Repair Install" with the
new CD.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

Slipstreaming is not the answer to your dilema. Although at this point
you don't really know what is causing your computer problems (assumed).
I have reloaded Windows from scratch on "tons" of computers. There are
several ways to prevent this requirement. One way is to "ghost" your
partition after a virgin install (os + drivers only). Then as you add
software
ghost again. Then when you start running into problems go back to earlier
ghost images until your system runs "normally". The other way is to use
restore points that you can set inside XP specifically. I have used this
method but the ghosting process, to me, has been more reliable. This also
assumes that your system does not get compromised by a virus/invasion
that is "lower" than the partition level.

I did ghost (took a week and actually geek squad at Best Buy did it. Now
my new 250 hard disk is recognized as 120 by windows because the ghost
was from a 120 drive.

Seems it just never ends with windows.
