regsvr32.exe keeps running

Task manager shows regsvr32.exe running on and off a
couple of times a second. How can I stop it completely?
Virus scans pickup nothing. Cpu idle goes from 90% to 40%
every time regsvr32.exe executes. Deleting from
winnt/system32 stops it but it reapears in winnt/system32
and will start doing the same things after next reboot.

The link below shows it could be related to spyware which means it may be helpful to
run something like AdAware to check for parasites. Just be sure to update the
definitions before you scan. Booting into safemode to scan is also helpful in
eliminating the problem sometimes. You also may want to use Autoruns from
SysInternals to see what is enabled on startup. The latest Autoruns will also tell if
the startup program is digitally signed or not. Just because a program is not does
not mean it is bad but if it is digitally signed by Microsoft you know it is the real
deal. Also look in Event Viewer for any possible Event ID's that may indicate a
potential problem. --- Steve
