Registry Problem with Folders

I have deleted a registry entry which controls the way folders open and I
have lost the restore point before this occurred.

The problems are -

1. In windows explorer, clicking on a folder in the folder pane works OK but
double-clicking on the same folder in the right pane brings up "Search
Results" in a new window even though "open each folder in the same window"
is selected.

2. Similarly, double-clicking a desktop folder shortcut brings up the search
window instead of the normal directory view.

Does anyone know which is the offending registry key and post or attach the
correct key and its contents.

Thanks,
Arthur Richards

What key was deleted?

I deleted one of the shell entries from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory - wanted
to remove one of the right click options which I had previosly installed via
explorer-tools-File Types-Advanced(Folder).

Assuming that you have neither a Full Registry Backup to revert to,
nor an Export of the affected key before modification. Either of
which would provide you with "undo" information...

Perhaps if you provided the detailed information, IOW a fully
qualified registry path *and* your OS and SP level, then possibly
someone will be able to provide "this is what I have there"
information. Otherwise we readers cannot know how to help, can we?

My apologies , I am running XP Home SP2!

My HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell seems to correspond with Dave's "as
installed"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell]

Where did you extract that key info from?

I am wondering now whether the problem lies in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder.
Could you post the "as installed" version for me.

Could you explain the sequence of operations when one double-clicks -

1. A Windows Explorer Right hand side folder.
2. A folder shortcut.
3. The Recycle Bin.

They are all playing up.

Thanks,
Arthur

|
|
|
|
|
|

Below is the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder key from the same machine.

Thanks Dave. I was missing the Folder\shell\open key. I used regedit to
re-enter the entries down as far as "ddeexec\topic" and that has fixed the
immediate problems. I will now look around for a .reg file to complete the
restoration.
