registry permission

I am using windows 2000 and when I run regedt32 as the
Administrator user I get the following error:
Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator.

I have not diabled anything but I am assuming that it
might be from the windows updates that I have been
applying to my OS does anyone know how to unset the
permission so I can edit my registry?
The admin user does belong to the administrator group.
Thanks!

Hi Wally. That kind of behavior does not generally happen out of the blue. I would
recommend running a virus scan with the latest up to date virus definitions to see if
anything is found. Probably a good idea to run SpyBot Search and Destroy also. Run
gpedit.msc to bring up Local Security Policy and look under user
configuration/administrative templates/system for the disable registry tools setting
to see if it is enabled. Even if it is not enabled, set it to disabled to see if it
helps. --- Steve

Steve,
Thanks going into gpedit and disabling the registry tool
setting resolved the issue, I not really sure what changed
it not to allow me to edit the registry...
