Registry Editing Question

I use Norton Ghost 10 for backups. I recently tried to open a Ghost file that
I didn't recognize, to see what was in it. I right clicked it and chose "Open
With". I Browsed to V2iMountSvc.exe in Norton Ghost and selected it. I now
have "V2iMountSvc" as a permanent entry on the "Open With" menu. I don't need
it there and would like to remove it.

I searched the registry for that entry and found it in
HKEY_Users\S-1-5-21-1715567821-1645522239-1801674531-100\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MuiCache.
In the right pane the Name is C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost\Browser\V2i
MountSvc.exe, the Type is SZ and the Data is MountSvc.exe. "Find" did not
locate any other entries in the registry matching that name.

My questions:

1) Can I safely delete that entry in the right pane to remove "V2iMountSvc"
from the "Open With" menus?

2) If I set a restore point prior to deleting it, will System Restore
replace the entry if there is a problem?

3) Is there an easier way to remove "V2iMountSvc" from the "Open With" menus?

I'm asking these questions because I haven't had a great deal of experience
in editing my registry.

Thanks,
Milt

If something is listed in
HKEY_Users\S-1-5-21-1715567821-1645522239-1801674531-100\
Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MuiCache
it just means that it has run at some time or other on your machine.

Thanks for the reply Wes. I follwed Ramesh's info. and found it in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Explorer \ FileExts. I deleted the entry there. Everything's fine now.

Thank you Lem,

I followed Ramesh's info. that Wes suggested and deleted the entry in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Explorer \ FileExts.

I also downloaded Dougs tool, per your instructions. That's easier. But I
like doing these things manually when I can though. That way I learn a little
something along the way.

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.
