I've always been a loyal follower of Norton System Works
and have bought it for Three years. It saved me many
times after I "fixed stuff that aint broke."
Also, If you open a *.reg file and click yes to add to
registry, it will overwrite those registry entries. The
same thing happens when you import a .reg. I haven't
experimented with this a lot, but I have never ended up
with 'a mess.' I guess you are right though, import does
not delete anything, it just overwrites if the old has the
same name as the new, so you would end up with some old
suff.

..REG file "Import" is _merge_. Merge the contents into the registry.
That may result in a Add, Change or Delete actions. Yes you can
"delete" from .REG files with special syntax.

Sounds like there is a whole world out there that I need to explore. Will
check it out. Thx for the lead.

One problem I have is that I have a lot on my plate, and only get into
solving problems when I or my wife are suddenly tearing out hair because the
"computer broke" and it's a REAL problem. Then I have to get back into the
sand box and find and fix. I'm typically anal compulsive and get sweats
when I'm doing thing that I don't fully understand. However, it's gotta be
fixed, so I just keep plodding along. I have found groups a wonderful
source and rely on them. If I had to pay Bill for all the help I need, the
budget would be busted.

Thx again, pjl

I'm doing something stupid, any ideas? I've filled out the setup screens
best I can.

Special\set up xnews, select the "servers" tab, select whatever name
you've given your news server and make sure the server name or address
is correct, your ISP should have that info.

You can set up to use the Microsoft server by entering
news.microsoft.com

For help specific to Xnews, go to news.software.readers (using OE if
necessary) and ask there.
