Interesting, thanks!
Maybe R.L. will make an AutoIt script to automatize it :)

hmmmm...perhaps, may or may not, anything that touch the
directory in an automatic way could be in fact kind of
risky.... I will think about it :)

Conclusion : RegCompact is shareware and therefore OT.

Have you ever installed RegCompact? And if so, has it
ever dunned you for
payment?
I have installed v1.0, of RegCompact, and it has
*never* come up with a msg,
requesting I pay.
Therefor, in my opinion, [the discussion of]
RegCompact *is* on-topic, here.

Just download it and read this paragraph:

"RegCompact is Shareware. You are authorized to install, use,
make backups of, distribute, and reverse engineer RegCompact
at no charge. If you find RegCompact useful, you are asked to
make a voluntary donation."

Although the term "shareware" is used...I wonder if it means
"share" - "ware" or donationware....(I have seen some call
freeware as "share" + "ware", i.e., ware to share with no cost
and no pay...just a guess

What is Thunderscape?
There seems a sort of Netscape ancestry; Netscape and OE were the only mail
clients I liked, purely on look and feel, then Netscape went away, but I
think it's sneaked back - hence Thunderscape, although the Mozilla kit
which includes Composer is prolly nearer

Well, I've had no trouble compacting the registry - it's OE that's
crashed and burned horribly on compacting; It's done it twice, and
even I can take that sort of hint.

mike

It is essential, in OE, before attempting to compact folders that you
click File/Work Offline. I had the horrible crash and burn once when I
never did this, since then it works fine every time. Its amazing how
fragmented the folders become over time.

Thanks. Doc, though the info is just to late to save OE, now I've got a
decent replacement - I'd be bound to ferget a ticking timebomb like that,
even after you told me

Looks familiar. Didn't you write a newspaper column once upon a time?
Would you believe the local rag turned it down so I decided to make it
available to the whole world. I bet Hemingway had a similar problem when
he was just starting. Besides, I never turn down a chance to put up a
pic of my dogs,
