Registry Cleaners Are a Must for Computer Users

For computer users around the world, perhaps nothing is more
frightening -- or frustrating -- than a full-blown computer crash.
While crashes happen for a variety of reasons, popular opinion states
that risks can often be eliminated by using anti-virus software. True?
Not necessarily.
According to Consumer Review, 95 percent of all window system crashes
are caused by errors in a computer's registry function. Unfortunately,
computer registries are also one of the most overlooked elements of a
PC's maintenance needs. The reason for this is simple -- most computer
users simply don't know they even have a computer registry, let alone
have the knowledge that it needs to be regularly maintained. Simply
put, a computer's registry is similar to the spinal cord in a human
being; nearly everything that a computer does depends on the
transportation of data through the registry. When a registry contains
errors or becomes cluttered with unnecessary data, data transmission
is restricted or impeded and leads to slow performance, unexpected
shutdowns and/or system crashes....

Terrible advice, in my view. Moreover it's multiposted all over the XP
newsgroups, and obviously by a spammer.

Registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Without any doubt. And a word to the wise is sufficient.
