"Registry Booster" for XP Sp2 program...

I just purchased a program called "Registry Booster" which will "survey my
registry" to "rout out errors" and "correct them". Ostensibly, this program
is built specifically for Windows XP Sp 2 (Home): has anyone ever heard of
the Program or others like it? If anyone knows about this, can I trust this
particular program or others like it (it has a "copy and restore" function)
not to turn my registry into hash? And, last, does Microsoft have a similar
program that will go through the registry of XP Sp2 Home and remove/fix
errors like invalid paths; invalid file associations; (system appropriate)
user software settings--and many more?

It basically boils down to this: If you don't know what you are doing
with the Registry, then stay out of it.

Many programs claim to "fix" things and "remove this and that" and
"speed up your computer" but they almost never really deliver and all
are capable of causing havoc. Using them can cause great harm to your
operating system.

If your computer is running just fine, why mess with it?

I strongly recommend *against* the use of registry cleaners. Cleaning
of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry
alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people
think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software try to
convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt
you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

You would have been wiser to post BEFORE you wasted hard earned cash for
nothing, Unless you can determine if the items the software wants to remove
are in fact invalid, then using such software is not recommended.
