RegCure vs. RegMechanic

I currently have installed RegMechanic, which comes up for renewal tomorrow.
I also installed the free RegCure, which, although it says it has discovered
tons of errors in my registry, won't cure any of them unless I pay for the
Plus. Should I let RegMechanic lapse and pay for the RegCure Plus, or
should I let RegMechanic lapse and forget about any registry software

I already have an antivirus (AVG) and can't use two. Moreover, PC magazine
gives a very low rating to Windows LiveOneCare.

There is two parts to that site, one care all in one security package in
which they are offering you a 90 day trial,(you don't want) and a free online
scanner which you can use any time you want. I also have all the other AVG
av programs and antispyware programs . The clean-up scan has three parts to
it, cleans unneeded junk files, part two scans your registry and cleans
invalid entries, and part three checks your computer for updates that you
might not have installed. And if you would like to defrag your hard drive and
make your computer run better you should try the Tune-up scan also. I use the
scanner for clean-up and tune-up once a month. I also have installed Abexo
free registry clean and fix but don't use it to much since the Microsoft
Safety scanner works fine for me. Just do a clean-up scan and see what it
tell you.

Thanks, Ron. Just what I needed. Don't actually need the Tune-up scan as
Windows already has a defragger in it.

Someone, I just did a scan and my registry had 21 invalid entries, and the
scanner fix all one shot. Between removing a program or two and the big
update i figured it was time to check. Enjoy

You could also use Ccleaner (Issues Icon) to clean the registry. I use
Ccleaner and Windows Live Onecare cleanup (broom).

Thats what i use Mr. Cat. Btw I feel much safer using a Microsoft registry
cleaner on a Microsoft registry.

OK. I downloaded Ccleaner and saved it to my "Download" folder. However,
when I try to run it, I have no luck. I fill in the screens, it starts to
install, but then quits. Could this be a problem with my firewall?

Someone, sorry it didn't work the first time. I've had it so long and never
heard of a download problem but you have to try again. Never turn off your
firewall but maybe turn off all AV and AS, check ADD/REMOVE to see if its
there and remove if it is and try a new download

Someone, more info to consider: Me personally would run the download and
uncheck everything except short cut to desktop and un-check all other things
like yahoo or Google toolbars that they try to get you to install with the
CCleaner download.

Well, I ran it this morning without saving it first, and it worked. I don't
know why saving it first and running it later didn't, but it could have been
the site from which I downloaded it. I used download.com this time.

Hi,

You might want to save this link for downloading CCleaner in the future:

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx

You'll have the option of downloading the Standard, Basic, or Slim build of
the Setup file.

Standard= Toolbar + Extra Language support
Basic = No Toolbar, Extra Language support
Slim = No Toolbar, English only

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Someone, This is how i'm set-up - in windows uncheck auto complete form
history- uncheck all in advanced except old prefetch data , now in
applications uncheck Windows Defender. Now in options - settings uncheck all,
Now in options - advanced uncheck all. Now when you do a cleaner scan, before
you clean go to options - cookies and decide what cookies YOU want to keep
from being cleaned. example: Verizon, Aol, All Microsoft, forums you use and
programs you use, you'll get it. Any problems post back. Its a good program
enjoy.
