Referencing outline numbers within text of Word document

In many legal/technical documents, every pararaph or sentence of the document
is numbered and the outline feature works fine for creating section numbers
in the desired format for the various sublevels. And, if you add paragraphs
somewhere in the middle, everything after it is correctly updated/renumbered.
However, I have not found a way to automatically link to these section
numbers when you refer to them within the text in a manner that will also
automatically update. For example, the document may have:

(A) this section describes blah blah blah:
(1) except as allowed in (A)(3), blah blah blah
(2) blah blah blah
(3) blah blah blah
(B) blah blah blah

I would like to be able to link the text "(A)(3)" in section (A)(1) to the
actual number in line (A)(3) so that if I later update/insert other sections
and section (A)(3) changes to a different number, the text of "(A)(3)" in
(A)(1) automatically updates to the new number.

In many cases, the technical/legal document may be hundreds of pages long
with literally thousands of numbered paragraphs/sections so a solution that
requires manual numbering and manual linking of every referenced number would
not be very helpful.

Have you tried using Insert | Reference | Cross-reference to "Paragraph
number" of "Numbered item"?

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping it existed somewhere in there. It is
slightly cumbersome to use for each link but it seems to work and do exactly
as I needed. Thanks again.
