reducing file size for web presentation

Hello

I am making some Powerpoint presentations for use on a website and they
include audio narration.
I used the very handy method of converting mp3s to riff-wav files in order
to embed them from here:
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm

current file size is about 9 mb - still too big for web use
The audio is made up of small clips which play when each slide loads

For web use would it be better to link to these files rather than embed
them?
Would this mean the audio is only loaded as each slide is activated
therefore speeding up delivery?

Any other tips welcome

many thanks

If you link to them, they'll be linked to sound files on your PC at worst, or
at best, to the same folder as the PPT itself is located in. That won't work
on the web because the PPT is downloaded to a temp folder on the user's PC; the
sounds will still be up on the web; the links won't work.

If we could put the sounds up on the web and then link to them there, it'd
work, but as far as I can see, PPT won't allow that.

I wonder how it'd work if you were to break up the presentation into multiple
presentations; have the next button at the end of one link to the next
presentation in the series. Each would then be smaller and take less time to
download.
