Reduced size of Word screen

Running WindowsXP professional on a Sony laptop, when I opened Word today the
top 3cm of screen is not used. If I minimise it allows me to stretch the
application to cover the entire screen, but as soon as I hit 'Maximise' the
top edge drops down about 3cm (the other edges maximise okay). Changing the
screen resolution doesn't help. I think I may have hit some key combination
that has introduced this problem, but I can't eliminate it and it's very
annoying.
Would appreciate any help! Cheers.

Maximize Word and then resize the Taskbar from one to two lines or
vice-versa and the Word window might reposition. If the task bar
doesn't resize, then right click on the Taskbar, click "Lock the
Taskbar" to remove the checkmark.
