"Reduced functionality mode" in Office XP

Chris

Hoping someone might be able to help me with this
problem! I purchased a used Dell LatitudeCpx laptop with
XP Pro & Office XP installed. It did not come with
installation CD's. I installed AOL and added 128mb of RAM.
When I went to use Word, I recieved a notice that goes
something like: "due to a significant change in your
machine's configuration, Office is in reduced
functionality mode. Please insert the original CD that
came with your computer and click "next" and follow the
onscreen instructions . . . . ."
The upshot is I cannot create, save, or modify any
documents in Word, and I assume I'll run into problems
with the other OfficeXP programs. Is there any way to get
this thing out of reduced functionality without the CD's?
Do I have to install a new version of XP?
I would appreciate any help!!! You can email me
directly if you prefer at (e-mail address removed).
Thanks, Chris

I assume this is an older laptop that you didn't get directly from
Dell's refurbished sales. The seller *should* have given you all cd's
that came with the laptop. If possible, contact them. If not possible,
you will need to uninstall OfficeXP and buy a new Office. If you don't
want to spend the money on MS Office, OpenOffice makes a good
substitute that is free - www.openoffice.org.
