redirect google requests to live.com

R

Richard Herb

We have many users that refuse to use live.com, even though we have
locked down the desktops, made live.com their home page, installed
websense, AND taken away their administrative rights.

I could just block google with websense, but this presents a "dead
end" to the users.

I want to modify either the hosts file or the Win2003 DNS server so
that whenever they enter google.com, it redirects them to live.com

Can it be done?

Interesting you want to force this. To do so, create a google.com zone, then
create a www alias to www.live.com. You can also create a www A record and
point it to the IP address of one of the www.live.com servers. But if they
change their IP, you won't be able to access it until you figure out it was
a change.

thanks Ace!

You are the best!

(yeah, I forgot to mention the users were using google to translate
english to english, in order to circumvent blocked websites)

but yeah, I am also a big Microsoft fan, and doing my part in some
small way to balance the uneven advantage google has over live.

I still think it has alot to do with that fact that you can "google"
someone, but to "live" or "yahoo" someone just doesnt sound right.

Microsoft, can't you make your search engine a verb? Someone get Steve
Ballmer on the phone!

You can 'live 'em up' or something. :)

ON a technical note, have you considered ISA server? You can easily control
them and then some, with ISA.

I thought ASA could do that too?
