Hi Steve,
It has been awhile since I have played Red Alert 2. Does your hardware
meet the game hardware specifications? (Installing and trying this now)
Compatibility mode is not necessary for this game on XP, as I have just
installed and am playing it. Since you are posting to XP newsgroups I would
presume you were trying on XP.
The support page for this game is
http://www.eagames.com/official/cc/redalert2/english/index.html You can
find hardware requirements and downloads for updating that application
there.
If you still have problems you can go to run line command and type
dxdiag > run tests at tabs > save at bottom > copy/attach here.

Thanks for post!

Do you have the latest patch on it?
At what point does the window come up?
Does it say anything else within the window?
Did you install Westwood Internet components? (Not sure why it would make a
difference, nececssarily, but it's there.)
Did you check Westwood's site, and/or contact their support?

You haven't mentioned the sound card, check google for any compatibility issues with your soundcard and try updating the radeon and soundcard drivers from their respective manufacturers. (RA2 once had issues with an old creative soundcard we had and refused to run properly). By the way according to the Experts Exhange that QNC may be something to do with Lotus Notes..Quote/Quincy is a program installed with Lotus Notes that captures errors into a file called NOTES.RIP in the root directory of the hard drive. You can view this file in a text viewer such as Notepad to determine where the errors are occuring. You can also turn off Quincy, which will allow the normal Window's error messages to come up.

Follow these steps to turn off Quincy:

1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and choose MS-DOS Prompt.

2. When the DOS prompt loads, type

CD \NOTES

This will take you to the DOS prompt "C:\NOTES", which is the default location for Lotus Notes; use your location if it is different.

3. At the C:\NOTES prompt, type

QNC -U

making sure you have one blank space between QNC and the hyphen.

4. Press Enter to run the command/Quote If you find the qnc file maybe you'll find out what is causing the errors. good luck.
