Recovering registry entries from a cloned disk?

B

Bill

I just reinstalled XP Pro on a clean disk because of a few
problems. I made a copy of the old disk before I wiped it out
but did not export the registry to a file. I want to try and get
some settings out of the old registry for the new system. Is it
possible to run something like REGEDIT on registry files that
are not active on the system in question? Booting from the old
disk will probably not be simple because of drive letters, etc.

Run regedit.exe, then from the Local Machine Hive, choose File|Load Hive.
Then navigate to the location of the hive you want to edit/read. Give it
some tempname (doesn't matter what). Then when your done, move the cursor
back to tempname, then File|Unload Hive, File|Exit
