what can be done to recover deleted files that were not sent directly to the

You will need to use special undelete tools (not part of Windows) to
find your file remnants. The more you use your computer in the meantime,
the less likely you are to recover them as those disk areas will be
overwritten with new information.

Always keep your Recycle Bin active, thus most deleted files will go there.
Next, check the Bin if it may be in there or use the Search feature for it
may have been moved to a different location. If you have not added anything
to
your harddrive, you can try the below app to recover. Download it to a
floppy disk (if none), to a CD-R or RW and run it from there. Do not download
it to your harddrive for it may overwrite what you are trying to recover.

I suppose using powerful data recovery tools to restore. Among them I
can pose out Active@ Undelete and Uneraser(for DOS). They never failed
me before, and their recovery methods are simply awesome. that should
definately help you recovery, try it out.
