Recovering deleted files

Is there any way of recovering accidentally deleted files
on windows 2000 professional. I accidentally deleted some
important pictures of my family. They were not in the
recycling bin.

Probably not by this time. Any recovery needs to be done ASAP before
the file space is re-used (after Delete) by the filesystem.

You can look into and try something from
http://lists.gpick.com/pages/File~Data_Recovery_Tools.htm
or elsewhere. If the tool was available on the system just after the
deletions the chances would be "better".

If it is really important data, regular backups are the best
preparation for recovery.

That inclueds fully backing up the registry.

BTW what is "registry" about this issue?
More likely .general or .file_system groups
