Recovering an encrypted file

I have encrypted some files on my PC, after a while the
computer was formatted and since then I cannot decrypt
those files / folders.
when I uncheck the "Encrypt contents to secure data" in
the advanced file properties I get an error "access
denied", in the details the recovery agents list is empty,
and when I try to add a user the "find user" button is
disabled.
I tried AEFSDR but it shows all my files as non-
decryptable.
is there any workaround this problem? I'm not on a domain
or workgroup.

I might have some hope, I made a copy of the user's info
under "documents and setting" and I know the password for
the user who encrypted the files.
