Recover partition from USB drive

M

markheus

Hi - I accidently deleted the partition from my HP external media
drive. I have a copy of partition magic but it says that it can't
undelete the partition.

I haven't made any changes to the drive - haven't tried to restore or
anything.

I'd prefer not to buy another program as I already have Partition Magic
but I suppose I will If I have to.

Any hints to help me out?

I have had some success with Recovery Expert
(www.acronis.com).

Is this a standard hard drive contained inside an external drive
housing?

If so you might have better luck with Partition Magic if you remove
the drive from the housing and install it (temporarily) as the master
drive on the secondary IDE channel of your computer and then run
Partition Magic to see if it can recover the partition.

Good luck

You know - That's a good question. I'm guessing its a regular drive
inside a fancy brushed aluminum case. I'll take it apart tomorrow and
check it out.

I'm actually running Acronis Suite right now. Its been scanning the
drive for a couple hours. God I hope its not writing anything to it....
