Recipient can't open .avi file sent message application not found

I am trying to send a small movie file (.avi) but the recipient can't open it
and gets a message "Application not Found" How do I send files of this type
as an attachment. Will it work if i zip the file first.

Can the recipient normally open AVI files? Do they have some sort of media
player installed on their computer?

Your recipient has to have installed an application that will play AVI
files.
