Recent updates and AIM

Shane

Greetings,
I'm running Windows XP and after a recent set of updates I find that AIM is
giving me a connection error (I go throough logging in and it immediately
says the connection was lost). I tried it on Trillian with the same results
for AIM.

I did some searching and apparently I'm not the only one experiencing this..
the question is if there's a recovery strategy. I tried uninstalling the
updates (ironically they warn that doing so may cause problems for AIM) and
still face the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Shane

I'd keep the updates installed, and try uningstalling & reinstalling AIM.

Not a bad idea, should have thought of it myself!

I tried uninstall/reinstall both with and withiout the updates (They're back
on the system again) and still have that trouble.

Fortunately AIM came up with a Beta.. unfortunately I still can't use
Trillian for AIM

:: sigh ::

I read there's something different in how servers are accessed/used/whatnot
with the new updates, perhaps that's why even Trillian doesn't use AIM..

Perhaps they'll have a newer version.

Thanks anyhoo,

Shane

I have AIM, Trillian, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, etc. They all kept working fine
for me. I was told to reboot though. I use the old AOL Communicator
though for AIM. I don't run any new version of AIM. But that doesn't
explain why my Trillian is working and yours don't. Are you using the
free version like I am?
