Recent start-up problems

My computer was running completely normal until yesterday. Things I did
differently include defragmenting the computer and running Norton virus scan
and cleanup on Saturday (which I have done before). Things were fine after
that. That night, I put in a DVD that froze my computer twice before I gave
up and shut down my computer. When I turned my computer on last night, it
took over 15 minutes to startup (normally 1 minute or so), the startup music
was skipping and was slower than you could imagine. It takes 5 minutes plus
to startup internet explorer after clicking the icon. Forget about windows
media player...skipping and unhappy. It sounds like it hasn't stopped
"thinking". When I hit ctrl-alt-delete it says the CPU usage is 100%...it may
go down as low as 90% but never less and still thinks and thinks and thinks.
I tried to restore to an earlier day but I get an error message. Any
thoughts? I'd appreciate any suggestions. My computer is less than a year old
and has been great since I got it! Thanks in advance!

What program is using all of the CPU?
What is your malware status?

I'll have to check about the CPU usage when I get home. I haven't run a
spyware/malware program for quite some time though.

I am guessing Spyware/Malware is your problem. Fully update your
associatedspyware program, if you can, and run a full system scan.
