Recent emails gone missing from Inbox

I have just noticed today that emails I received during the period 11 october
to 17 November have gone missing. I remember one of the senders and when I
search the Inbox with the toolbar search utility for that mail, it turns up.
When I return to the Inbox it isn't displayed there. I can't remember them
all but it appears from this one search that the emails are somewhere but
don't display in the Inbox despite the fact that they can be found by an
Inbox search. What is happening and how can I get these mails displayed?
