Rebooting/Hourly "major event recovery"/XP Repair Console-sfc /?

I replaced my system board/processor (using the embedded NIC now) and am
getting "Recovered" messages, rebooting, hangs, etc. In the past I ran the
XP CD, did a Repair and all was hunky dory. My OS is XP sp2, my CD is XP pre
sp2. When I try to do a repair with the CD, I get a message that says the CD
and OS don't match. So I researched MS website, got info about "sfc",
eventually rebooted to safemode/dosprompt. Tried to run "sfc" to repair
files, I got a message that says "the server is not running". How do I
remedy this without having to repurchase the CD?

Any help with these issues would be much appreciated.

if you have a cd burner , you can build a CD that will work for your repair
