XP (home), SP2, all current Windows updates.
AMD 2800+ Barton core
Asus A7N8X2-Deluxe Motherboard
ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro Graphics.
2x 512M DDR 3200 memory.
120G Western Digital 'Special Ediditon' HD.
Lite-on DVD -rw/+rw drive.
Lite-on CD r/rw drive
Floppy, Fax/modem, Microsoft MM kboard, Microsoft optical USB PS2 mouse.
I've had no problems with this system for one year. Yesterday my son was
playing Counterstrike online, and the PC 'froze.'
When an attempt was made to reboot the machine, it goes into a reboot 'loop'
when it gets to the blue 'Windows' welcome screen.
The PC will not accept any F8 (safe mode) commands, except disable automatic
reboot on fault. When this is selected, the boot process gets to the
'welcome' screen and the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (I've never seen it
before....) appears. The fault identified is BAD POOL CALLER, STOP: 0xC2,
with parameter 1 showing 0x43: all other parameters are 0x0.
I disconnected all cables to the PC except the monitor and keyboard- no
change.
I disconnected each optical drive, floppy, modem, USB connector, firewire
connector, (everything but the graphics card, HD, keyboard, and power
supply)- no change.
I removed each 512 stick of ram individually- no change.
I attempted to repair XP using the CD. When it gets to the point where
there is about 25 minutes left in the installation process, the machine
reboots, and starts the installation process all over again.
I don't think the failure is temperature related, because it happens
immediately upon boot up.
I tried to do the troubleshooting specified in KB 310396, but there is no
change.
I am suspecting either a failed graphics card (hardware) or an issue with
the graphics card drivers.
Is there anything else I can try before I send the graphics card back for
repair? I am leaving the country in 3 weeks, for two months. I need this
computer to work, so I can communicate with my family.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
