Reboot issue with RDP

S

Shawn Johnson

I am having an issue using the RDP client to connect to
my Windows 2000 server. I have 3 Win2k servers running,
and I can successfully connect using RDP to 2 of them.
With the third machine, I start the RDP client, the
client says it is going to connect, then it continues to
cycle indefinitely. This process actually reboots the
server.

This is a problem that cropped up after 1.5 months of
successfully being able to run the RDP. There have been
no changes to the system.

I have looked at the error log, and have only found a
Schannel Error ID 36871, and STOP Error 0x0000007f.
According to what I have read, the Schannel error has to
do with some certificate issues, but should not be a
fatal error (and is quite common..). And the 0x0000007f
error is as generic as white bread. None of the kb's
really state what to take a look at.

The only other two entries are Event ID's 1001 and 6008.

Here is part of the messages:

(#1)
Event Type: Information

Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck
was: 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000,
0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump

(#2)
Event Type: Error
Event Source: EventLog
Event Category: None
Event ID: 6008
Date: 9/27/2003
Time: 11:46:44 PM
User: N/A
Computer: NW1
Description:
The previous system shutdown at 11:43:58 PM on 9/27/2003
was unexpected.

It was suggested to me that I reinstall SP4 on top of the
system, but that was to no avail. If anybody has any
insight, I would appreciate your help. It is much easier
for me to administer from home after hours, so getting
this fixed would prove beneficial.

Thanks for your help in advance.
