Reboot during POST

Hi Guys,

Got a sick computer here I hope someone can help with.

The user complained that the computer was shutting down during POST.

I got the computer and plugged in my PSU. I found that it was hanging
just after the memory check. I could not even get into the BIOS.
(Reset or power off required to fix).

I tried resetting the BIOS via the jumper and removing the battery.
Made no difference.

Next thing I tried was my RAM. Made no difference.

About a day ago I tried to boot again - this time it resetted during
POST but then booted into windows XP fine.

I ran Prime95 for a day and got no errors.

I am having real difficulty tracking the offending hardware down.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers

you may have a corrupt file, or the mother board may be going and or course
you checked all
the connections. It could be a bios setting. I would try a repair install.

You should also try to locate some type of power supply tester. It
could be that the original power supply unit (PSU???) might not be
able to provide the required power wattage all the time.

You tried the obvious. Seems to be a short somewhere like maybe the mobo has
gone bad.
