reappearing favourites

I moved all my favourites into folders because I was starting to get too many.
Some time later they all reappeared in the list of favourites below the
folders.
I laboriously deleted them all (Is there a way to delete blocks of
favourites? - shift or ctrl don't seem to work in the usual way) but then
they reappeared again. Any ideas?

Manipulate them in Windows Explorer, rather than IE.
They are just files and can be deleted in blocks quite easily.
Favorites location in Windows XP if installed on C:
C:\Documents and Settings\logon_name\Favorites

Thanks. That answers part of the question i.e. how to get rid of lots of
favourites quickly but any ideas on why they reestablish themselves?

I am afraid I don't know why they would reestablish themselves, unless
they are unwanted favorites foisted upon you, but you don't give that
impression.
Is there anything unique or unusual about these particular favorites?
Do all favorites you move into folders reappear?

No nothing unusual that I can see. Not foisted.
Yes, all have reappeared twice now.
Will continue to monitor.
